WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT?
THE MISSION?
or
YOUR FRIENDS?
Yri Eriksson, shock-trooper for the Hegemony of Midrech, drops into enemy territory to eliminate a new threat—a nascent nuclear weapons program that might one day be used to destroy her home.
The moons of Midrech and Brigo orbit the same gas giant. Locked in cold silence, one world is armed and advanced, the other fumbles in an age of darkness. Yri has trained her entire life to break the silence.
But the mission quickly unravels. The deeper Yri pushes into Brigo, the less her war looks like the one she was trained to fight.
Her comrades are killing civilians, and her commander and mentor won't answer for it. Is Midrech here to destroy a weapon or erase a people? Yri has always been a faithful soldier, but her loyalty is splintering by the hour.
The hegemony demands Yri’s obedience. A world of innocents begs for her mercy.
Her conscience calls for mutiny.

The young apprentice Roka has always known her sword master is a ticking time bomb. Long has it been her job to keep Master Yusubru in check.
But graduation is approaching. As Roka finishes her sixth year of training, a prestigious job as Keeper of the Walls opens in the imperial capital of her nation, and Yusubru is certain the post can be hers.
The allure of opportunities and connections is strong, and she even has an invitation to meet the emperor. But dark shadows loom over the city. Colonizers that once brought war and disease to Roka’s home now bring trade and schools, exerting influence under the guise of friendship. At their head is the haughty Elise King who whispers in the ear of the emperor. The gifts she offers appear enticing on the surface, but only Master Yusubru knows the dark future she plots.
All Roka has ever wanted to do is serve her people on her own terms, both the troubled and the troublers. She knows her master will not always be there to have her back. When she is on her own, will she rise to the challenge of keeping her people safe?
About the author
W. Jefferson Smith was born in a Navy hospital and grew up in Texas under the watchful eyes of a professional editor and a science fiction fanatic. It was destiny he would make the questionable choice to pursue creative writing and pen his own spaceship and robot stories. The Aliens Come to Earth, his first book, was chosen by his 2nd-grade teacher to be printed and bound in hard cover, and he’s been writing ever since.
Along the way, Smith worked at an Army fishing resort in Alaska, soloed for his private pilot’s license, and learned what he didn’t want to do for a living. Now, Smith pays for his writing addiction by working a day job as an instructional designer. He lives in Southern Utah where he explores the outdoors, gets overly competitive about video games, and watches unhealthy amounts of anime.
